I was a senior in high school and my college search was long underway. Growing up as a beach kid in New Jersey, I was set on going to college in Florida. I wanted to be able to live in the warm weather all year round. The list of potential options continued to grow, but I had never even heard of Flagler. That is when my bosses at the ice cream shop I worked at in New Jersey, who are actually Flagler alumni, told me I have to check it out... and am I glad I did.
After my first tour of Flagler, I knew I wanted to call it home for the next four years. I applied, was excepted and moved to St. Augustine, FL in August of 2018. Moving to new state without any familiar faces was definitely a transition, but Flagler’s close-knit community made it easy to find your people. I made a great group of friends and found myself getting involved in on-campus activities. I was a member of the Honors Program, on the Campus Activities Board, an Ambassador and I participated in intramural athletics.

In terms of academics, I majored in Strategic Communication and minored in Advertising. Flagler’s Communication department is phenomenal and definitely prepared me for my professional career after college. All of my professors genuinely wanted their students to succeed and they made every effort to get you where you wanted to be by graduation. Because Flagler is such a small school, you develop personal connections with each and every one of your professors, which makes the education experience extremely individualized.
While Flagler itself was a huge part of my college experience, the town and community surrounding it will always be home. Living in St. Augustine provided me with so many memories that I will cherish forever. Whether it was studying with friends at the Downtown Kookaburra, riding the Holly Jolly Jingle Trolley at Christmas or Taco Thursdays at Osprey Tacos, I was always making the most of living in the Oldest City. Not to mention the ten minute drive to the beach. While I live in Orlando now, I fall right back into the swing of things anytime I visit St. Augustine.

In spring of 2021, I graduated from Flagler with a Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communication with Honors. I was actually able to graduate a whole year early, which meant leaving St. Augustine, but also moving onto my professional career. I now reside in Orlando, FL and work as a Paid Media Coordinator at Ketchum. I visit St. Augustine as often as I can and know that I will always be a member of the Flagler family. If you are considering attending Flagler College, I encourage you to take a tour and explore the town, because it was truly the best decision I have ever made.
